Daly City General Plan Housing Element Community Workshops -
On May 12th and June 3rd, the City will host two community workshops during which Planning Department Staff will present a rough outline of housing conditions within Daly City, what policies and programs are contemplated to address adverse conditions, and the schedule for adoption of the Housing Element. Workshop participants will be invited to comment on the Draft Element and provide ideas for additional policies and programs for consideration by the General Plan Steering Committee. SB586 - Create a
Shopping Center at the Corner
of Geneva Avenue and Carter Street
Senator Leland Yee recently introduced SB 586 to add the Cow Palace’s overflow parking lot to California’s list of surplus real property and make it available for purchase to a developer. The property could be used for much needed affordable housing and create a neighborhood serving retail center and scores of new jobs.

The neighborhood has grown up around this seldom
used plot of land. Over
the past ten or so years, hundreds of new homes, condominiums and
apartments were built in the area, yet there are no grocery stores,
banks or other basic retail services available to the residents.
The timing couldn’t be better; this action can help
rejuvenate this underserved corner of the San Francisco Bay Area and
turn a burden on the State into a benefit to the economy.
